                            First Baptist Memories

We are asking members and friends to contribute some of their favorite
memories to the First Baptist Library.

Dick Pierce has written a history of the last 150 years for the 150th
Anniversary Booklet.  You too can help write the history of First Baptist by
submitting some of your favorite memories.  It may be a memory of a
Sunday School teacher, a minister, an associate or interim minister, a
sermon, a musical program or soloist, a wedding, a memorial service, a
mission program, a lay person who has done a lot for our church, our
building, a little known part of church history, etc, or you may want to add to
something you read in the 150th Anniversary Booklet.
The purpose of this project is to preserve memories that would otherwise
be lost and to make these memories available for the enjoyment of others.
Good pictures are also welcome.

Complete this
FBC Memories Form and email it to whfbc@yahoo.com.  In
lieu of using the computer you may obtain a form from the Church office.
Questions??? Contact a member of the 150th Anniversary Historical
Committee: Carol Wylie, Olive Dickinson, Faith Geist, Sonja Davis, Dick
Pierce or Les Martin.

The WARM TREE  is a Christmas tree
decorated with hats, scarves, mittens,
gloves, or other warm items that will
help warm your neighbor while you
decorate the church.
The tree will be put up at the Hanging
of the Greens and items may be put on
it any time after that.
Are You Able to Help If Needed?

In an effort to deepen our care and concern
for those in our church family, the
Congregational Care committee is looking
for people who are able to cook a meal for
those who are ill or shut-in or who need
special assistance in times of need.  If you
are able to make a casserole or another
dish or an entire meal, please contact a
member of the congregational care
committee.  Often, one of the most loving,
caring things we can do for each other is to
offer a meal for those going through difficult
times.

Please remember to
bring canned foods,
clothing, coats and blankets
with you to
church for those in the greater Hartford area
in need of food and warm clothing during the
cold fall and winter months.  In these difficult
economic times, the need is very great.  The
first Sunday of the month is our traditional
day to bring in these items but please drop
them off at the church any time.
          Visit your church library

During the month of November we continue to
feature stories of all sorts in the library.  Look for
light, but inspiring fiction, parables, biographies,
and more, for all ages.    If you don’t find what
you are looking for check the fiction and
biography or missions sections of the shelves.
New books are on order.

After Thanksgiving our collection of Advent and
Christmas materials will be on display, including
crafts and activities for families and children., as
well as many retellings of the Christmas story.

Christmas Caroling:

Come one and all for caroling
following  the church service on
December 20th. We will join
forces and visit shut ins and
others who would enjoy some
carols. Please save the date
and let's hope for no snow this
year on the 20th
Please save your Christmas cards and
leave them in the Women’s closet or
give them to Carol Wylie.  We will make
Christmas tags for 2010 from them.
COLD FEET AND WARM SOCKS

Wouldn’t warm feet be nice if you were
homeless?  If you were on the street or in a
shelter on a cold night?  Especially if you were
a kid?

Let’s provide warm socks for as many folks as
we can: men, women, and children.  The BIG
SOCK BASKET will be in Fellowship Hall on
Sundays and for holiday events.  Whenever
you come to church in December, try to bring
a pair of new socks.  Last year we topped 200
pairs, split between South Providence (White
Cross/Jean Denton) and Shiloh (Edie
Castagno).  Can we top it this year?

Make it a family project. Especially when you
come to the Christmas service, ask “Has
everyone got their socks for the Big Sock
Basket?”  Say to the kids “You’d do it for baby
Jesus and you know what Jesus said when he
grew up: What you do for a person in need,
you do for me.”
